It is only expected that Raipur, the state capital, becomes the second Indian city to welcome Padel. InPadel, in collaboration with Racketlon are setting up their first Padel court outside Bangalore.

What does this mean for Raipur, and for the rest of the country ?

Padel provides a large number of adult professionals an opportunity of a healthy pastime. In a world where gadgets and TV are turning adults and kids alike into couch potatoes, Padel provides an opportunity for all age-groups to come out and enjoy a fun game as a social unit, without the risk of fatigue or injury. It provides the kids yet another sport that they could aim to represent India in.

Specifically, Padel would provide the women of Raipur a great way of making fitness a part of their life within their schedule and budget. It would provide women a fun and addictive route to fitness, in the company of their friends and social circles. Padel would, in no time, become the favourite choice of women for unwinding and letting it go without exhausted. The downside of most other fitness regimes are that they get very expensive or exhausting or monotonous or lonesome. Padel is the perfect anti-dote to all of these.

It provides a host of other subsidiary businesses to flourish. Padel, being a social sport, is often clubbed with food courts and bar counters. It provides the sports equipment merchants to open up a completely new line of business. It provides event organizers to come together and organize family, social and corporate events around Padel.

It offers the residents of Raipur an opportunity to create outstanding professional Padel players who could easily compete at the international level, as there is little competition in the country right now. It gives sports event professionals to organize professional Padel leagues.

Like any outstanding product, Padel has the potential to not only bring success to itself but carry through it a large number of businesses and individuals along with it.

This brilliant move by the visionary young entrepreneur, Abhishek Artwani of Racketlon and the promising partnership between InPadel and  Racketlon is all set to transform the face of sports in Raipur,  Chhattisgarh and the whole of the eastern India. “With so many games already so popular, and India doing well in a lot of them off-late, why should we invest in Padel infrastructure ?” is a question that is often asked by a lot of sports promoters with an interest in promoting sports infrastructure. With already so much out there, why risk in a completely new sport ?

The infrastructure vs ROI/profits is a perennial chicken-and-egg problem, in any business. An investor is always in a dilemma whether to first retrieve the ROI from one investments, generate sufficient profits, and then go for more ? Or go ahead and install more courts and let the sports promotion take its own course ?

The answer lies somewhere in between. Of course, one would not recommend openings courts indiscriminately – but any product requires a critical volume of infrastructure before it really enters the phase of a chain reaction.

Lack of sufficient infrastructure allows for very few people to be able to avail of the facility and more often than not, a large number of people would be turned away consistently – resulting in gradual loss of interest and switch over to those games which have sufficient infrastructure all around.

Imagine conducting a corporate party at a location with just one court. It accounts for longer waiting times for people before they get their chance to play, and the whole event ends up dry because of this. On the contrary, 3-4 courts at the location would have multiplied the fun and would generate the necessary “noise” in the town for more and more corporates to pitch in.

Ditto with conducting a large-scale tournament. The unavailability of courts would become a dampener.

For a sport like Padel, there are few hours in the day with the maximum demand of the court. Early mornings and late evenings are the peak periods in demand. If more and more people find themselves being turned away because of the unavailability of courts, the interest in the game would not be the same as it would be if large number of teams could play parallelly, in the same location, as well as across the town.

A large number of people would also be motivated to play regularly if they find a Padel court in their near vicinity. Having to travel several kilometres at odd hours for an hour of sport may not consistently keep everyone motivated for a long time. Sufficient number of courts spread throughout the town – across all prominent residential and commercial clusters – would inspire more and more people to participate in the sport with more regularity and commitment.

Like a new product, promoting a new sport requires buying much more than leasing real-estate. It requires leasing the mind-space of more and more people. You need to be constantly in sight. You need to compete with other sports for their attention. If people pass by Padel courts more frequently, and watching those fast-paced rallies and spectacular shots, they would be more inclined to stop by and watch the game. One day, they would want to enter the court and play it themselves. And as the reputation of padel goes – once somebody gets in – they would never go away.

Padel is catching across the world like a wild fire. The entire Europe is totally consumed by this fire. There is absolutely no reason why India would be left out of a global wave of this magnitude. At some point of time, Padel is going to be a big big business in India.

Why not take the leap of faith and seize the day ? The more buzz we create with a large number of Padel courts all over the major cities at all prominent locations, with a constant flurry of activities – playing, coaching, tournaments, corporate events, social events, family get-togethers – the whole country will be abuzz with Padel-mania in no time.

As they say – “Build it. They will come”.

1st Year Of Padel in India Tournament

CHARITY TOURNAMENT – Play for Uday!

Date: 25th March 2018

Venue: Play Arena

Time: 10am to 2pm group stage. We will call each group to come at their appropriate time. 2pm to 7pm knock out stage and final.

Teams: Max 16 Teams

Amount: Rs. 400/- per person (all to charity) Teams are allowed to donate extra if they want to charity. We will disclose soon the charity organization.

Game Format: Group stage, 3 games per team guaranteed.

Rules:

– Group Stage who wins 4 games first. In case of 3-3, a tie break of 7 points.

– Two teams of each group will go to next knock out stage.

– Knock out stage will be played 1 set.

– Final is a full 3 set match.

Prizes:

– InPadel cap and certificate to every participants;

– 2 Dropshot rackets and trophies to the winners;

– 2 Dropshot bags and trophies to the runners;

All entry fees and a percentage of food and beverages will all be reverted to Uday Foundation!

Drinks and food will be available at the Venue.

According to CEO – Bhavish Bachu, “We are very excited to introduce Padel in India. I have been born and bought up in Portugal where Padel has been popular for more than a decade and I can vouch that anyone who plays it for the first time will appreciate the simplicity and addictive nature of the sport.”

Today, Padel is the second most played sport in Spain. He pointed out, “Padel is an inclusive sport, physically less demanding than Tennis that can be played by individuals of ages 6-80 years old. The exciting nature of the sport also allows it

to be enjoyed by families and group of friends.’’ For Bhavish, bringing Padel to India has been a dream come true. According to him, having witnessed the phenomenal growth in Europe and during his two recent visits to India, he was convinced the sport would have a big reception in India.

InPadel envisages a bright future for Padel in India. Their goal for them is for Padel to be among the Top 5 Most Played Sports in India. To achieve this objective they envision that

every multi-sports facility needs to be equipped with infrastructure to popularise Padel. They target to have at least One Lakh players in the next five years, who play Padel professionally or as a recreational sport.

InPadel have currently setup and begun operations in 2 Padel courts across Bangalore. The response has been very positive across all age groups, with more than 1000 participants who have tried their hand at Padel. The company has already organised 6 Padel tournaments and is currently organising a Padel League which includes a Ranking Points System for players. Interestingly, 30% of Padel players are women as compared to 15% in other racket sports. This is a perfect opportunity for Indian women to be a part of this unique sport.

InPadel Sports Ranking System (ISRS) has been designed to provide a standardised reference for all aspects of amateur and professional play. Upon registering for the InPadel League, you will then be eligible for local and national rankings. Your rating will then be recorded to your InPadel account on our Website and Mobile App. This will allow participants to begin arranging games with other players according to their ranking and skill levels, at the desired court locations.

The league organisers will present a ‘Player of the Week‘ award to the best player of each Gameweek. The player will then receive an additional point in the ranking system.
