It is only expected that Raipur, the state capital, becomes the second Indian city to welcome Padel. InPadel, in collaboration with Racketlon are setting up their first Padel court outside Bangalore.

What does this mean for Raipur, and for the rest of the country ?

Padel provides a large number of adult professionals an opportunity of a healthy pastime. In a world where gadgets and TV are turning adults and kids alike into couch potatoes, Padel provides an opportunity for all age-groups to come out and enjoy a fun game as a social unit, without the risk of fatigue or injury. It provides the kids yet another sport that they could aim to represent India in.

Specifically, Padel would provide the women of Raipur a great way of making fitness a part of their life within their schedule and budget. It would provide women a fun and addictive route to fitness, in the company of their friends and social circles. Padel would, in no time, become the favourite choice of women for unwinding and letting it go without exhausted. “With so many games already so popular, and India doing well in a lot of them off-late, why should we invest in Padel infrastructure ?” is a question that is often asked by a lot of sports promoters with an interest in promoting sports infrastructure. With already so much out there, why risk in a completely new sport ?

The infrastructure vs ROI/profits is a perennial chicken-and-egg problem, in any business. An investor is always in a dilemma whether to first retrieve the ROI from one investments, generate sufficient profits, and then go for more ? Or go ahead and install more courts and let the sports promotion take its own course ?

The answer lies somewhere in between. Of course, one would not recommend openings courts indiscriminately – but any product requires a critical volume of infrastructure before it really enters the phase of a chain reaction.

Lack of sufficient infrastructure allows for very few people to be able to avail of the facility and more often than not, a large number of people would be turned away consistently – resulting in gradual loss of interest and switch over to those games which have sufficient infrastructure all around.

Imagine conducting a corporate party at a location with just one court. It accounts for longer waiting times for people before they get their chance to play, and the whole event ends up dry because of this. On the contrary, 3-4 courts at the location would have multiplied the fun and would generate the necessary “noise” in the town for more and more corporates to pitch in.

Ditto with conducting a large-scale tournament. The unavailability of courts would become a dampener.

For a sport like Padel, there are few hours in the day with the maximum demand of the court. Early mornings and late evenings are the peak periods in demand. If more and more people find themselves being turned away because of the unavailability of courts, the interest in the game would not be the same as it would be if large number of teams could play parallelly, in the same location, as well as across the town.

A large number of people would also be motivated to play regularly if they find a Padel court in their near vicinity. Having to travel several kilometres at odd hours for an hour of sport may not consistently keep everyone motivated for a long time. Sufficient number of courts spread throughout the town – across all prominent residential and commercial clusters – would inspire more and more people to participate in the sport with more regularity and commitment.

Like a new product, promoting a new sport requires buying much more than leasing real-estate. It requires leasing the mind-space of more and more people. You need to be constantly in sight. You need to compete with other sports for their attention. If people pass by Padel courts more frequently, and watching those fast-paced rallies and spectacular shots, they would be more inclined to stop by and watch the game. One day, they would want to enter the court and play it themselves. And as the reputation of padel goes – once somebody gets in – they would never go away.

Padel is catching across the world like a wild fire. The entire Europe is totally consumed by this fire. There is absolutely no reason why India would be left out of a global wave of this magnitude. At some point of time, Padel is going to be a big big business in India.

Why not take the leap of faith and seize the day ? The more buzz we create with a large number of Padel courts all over the major cities at all prominent locations, with a constant flurry of activities – playing, coaching, tournaments, corporate events, social events, family get-togethers – the whole country will be abuzz with Padel-mania in no time.

 NUTRITIONAL CONSIDERATIONS FOR PADEL PLAYERS:

According to the World Health Organization, Nutrition is the intake of food in relation to the dietary needs of the body. Good nutrition (a sufficient and balanced diet combined with regular physical exercise) is a fundamental element of good health.

There is a popular saying that says: WE ARE WHAT, WE EAT. The organism requires nutritional needs that will depend on our physical and physiological characteristics and our daily activity. Should a person who spends 10 hours a day sitting like a Pro Tour player eat the same? It seems obvious that no.

If we want to make a diet and pay attention to our nutrition, the first thing we must do is put ourselves in the hands of specialists and qualified personnel. Unfortunately, as in the world of physical activity, in the field of nutrition and dietetics there is a great intrusts and many people tell us what and how to eat without just doing previous studies about our metabolism and daily activity.

However, there are basic recommendations that everyone can follow, which will help us feel better in each padel training and match and therefore improve our performance. If you play the padel several times a week look at these tips:

EAT 5 TIMES A DAY:

There are several advantages of eating 5 times a day, every 2-3 hours. One is that it keeps our metabolism active, which keeps us energized throughout the day. We avoid the feeling of hunger or fainting, and we avoid binges in the main meals. Depending on our daily caloric expenditure, the amount of calories we must take at any given time varies. Another popular saying that is very effective is “breakfast like a king, eat like a prince and dinner like a beggar”.

When we get up, we should make a full breakfast, to have enough energy to start active the day. In the middle of the morning it is time to take a piece of fruit or a juice and get to lunch. At noon, we must eat everything, depending on the physical activity we have afterwards, we need energy to continue our activity. At the snack, we should pay attention to take a cookie, or a small sandwich, especially if we are going to play a game of padel, to end with a light dinner.

BALANCE DIET: 

In principle, for any person it is ideal to follow a balanced diet, to eat everything. The balance diet is very suitable for its great variety and quality of food. This variety is important in order to give the organism all the nutrients and substances it needs for its optimal functioning.

We should not take too many fried or high-fat products. At the time of choosing fats, these should be few and of good quality whenever possible, therefore, we can use olive oil, nuts, seeds, olives or avocado, always in moderate amounts not to favour excesses that we know are not Advisable in the diet especially at night.

And do not use harmful substances like alcohol, tobacco or coffee.

EAT HYDRATES AND PROTEIN 5-10 MINUTES AFTER EACH GAME:

After physical activity it is important to give the body those nutrients that have been depleted during exercise. It is very important to take foods rich in protein and hydrates right now, not in a large quantity. This will promote anabolism and muscle growth, also recover before fatigue and effort.

Always carry a snack, or a small sandwich for after training. And even if the game lengthens and has a great physical requirement, take a banana or a couple of snacks to a bar rich in hydrates so you can continue the game with intensity.

CONSTANT HYDRATION THROUGHOUT THE DAY, ESPECIALLY AROUND MATCHES:

Experts in Medicine and Physiology recommend the intake of 3-4 liters of water under normal conditions.

If we do physical activity or the weather conditions require it, we can increase that amount.

Whenever we are going to play a match or a training session, we should be well hydrated, and drink water during and after training. If we have performed a strong activity it is advisable to drink isotonic drinks to recover the spent substances. Although you could also take a piece of fruit.

 WHAT YOU CANNOT MISS IN YOUR DIET:                        

When you prepare your daily bag go to training or to play a game, besides putting a spare grip, cap, glasses, and all your equipment do not forget:

• Bottle of water or isotonic drink to take before, during and after training,
• Fruit pieces. A banana during the game, and an apple for after the game.
• Energy bar or vegetable sandwich, for after game, it will help you to recover the effort.

In short, we must pay attention to our food if we want to achieve results in our workouts and achieve optimal performance. Food and physical activity are fundamental elements for our health. Eat right, stay fit!

It was a dream come true that we have thrived more more than 1 year and half before we launched the first court. Many of you know the story well, others still do not know much details, but we really believe that everyone that heard the word Padel, everyone that touched a racked, everyone that played Padel in India, everyone that supported us, all of you for us are part of this story.

Teams: Max 16 Teams

Amount: Rs. 400/- per person (all to charity) Teams are allowed to donate extra if they want to charity. We will disclose soon the charity organization.

Game Format: Group stage, 3 games per team guaranteed.

Rules:

– Group Stage who wins 4 games first. In case of 3-3, a tie break of 7 points.

– Two teams of each group will go to next knock out stage.

– Knock out stage will be played 1 set.

– Final is a full 3 set match.

Prizes:

– InPadel cap and certificate to every participants;

– 2 Dropshot rackets and trophies to the winners;

– 2 Dropshot bags and trophies to the runners;

All entry fees and a percentage of food and beverages will all be reverted to Uday Foundation!
